Job description

ABOUT US The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.   The Salvation Army ‘Doorways’ community support model engages people at their point of need in a holistic way that is missional, relational and professional.  We provide support for those that need it most through financial and material emergency relief and casework which helps them to find long-term solutions. The volunteer Doorways Storeroom Assistant works actively during and outside of community opening hours to ensure material aid supplies are available for community members to collect. Working behind the scenes in a small team this role supports the important work of the local Doorways site with physical strength and a flair for presentation. Key tasks and responsibilities A friendly ‘can do’ attitude helps the storeroom team with the task of unpacking deliveries and donations while also lifting and carrying boxes safely. Volunteers in this role like things to be safe for all by making sure that food and material aid items are stored correctly according to food safety guidelines. Enthusiasm for keeping things neat, tidy and presented well is important to make sure all items are easily accessible for other team members who may also have access to the storage space. Time required Minimum of 2 hours / week or as agreed with manager Qualifications and skills Physical fitness and the ability to safely lift and carry is required for this role. The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer who provides an inclusive work environment and embraces the diverse talent of its people. We value and include people of all cultures, languages, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and intersex status. We are committed to achieving a diverse workforce and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child related roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. Additionally, certain volunteer roles may require a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. We value Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Diversity, and Collaboration.
